STOP THE WAVE, I WANT TO GET OFF!

A FILM TRIBUTE TO JIM WILHOITE & DOROTHY COWAN

Wendy Wilhoite Cowan and Stan Cowan are hosting a tribute to Jim Wilhoite and Dorothy Cowan. The tribute will showcase Jim Wilhoite's timeless surf film, "Stop the Wave, I Want to Get Off," which features breathtaking big wave riding at Pipeline and Waimea, Maui waves ridden by Butch Van Artsdalen and Mickey Munoz, as well as exciting surf action at The Wedge and Ventura, California. The film also includes amusing skits of skim-boarding and has John Severson, Corky Carroll, and Mickey Munoz slalom skateboarding around soup cans.

"Stop the Wave, I Want to Get Off" is a 16mm film professionally filmed, creatively edited, and a fan favorite among surfing enthusiasts. It is worth mentioning that many surf fans consider it to be the most iconic surf movie of all time. The movie features incredible footage of Yokohama Bay, rarely seen North Shore hot dog sessions and a memorable segment where George Downing, Ricky Grigg, and Keoloha Kaio ride perfect Laniakea, one of the first days it was ever surfed. The film has a unique charm and exceptional sense of humor, making it a timeless classic worth seeing.
