Earth Day Celebration at Buena Onda

We’re excited to announce a special Earth Day celebration at Buena Onda, bringing together rhythm, community and a little cosmic insight.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. with the Ewe Drumming Group of Santa Barbara, sharing traditional West African rhythms. In the words of Sese Ntem, the group's leader, "The rhythms and songs of the Ewe people of Togo and Ghana reflect their deep relationship with the land, with the divine, with the ancestors and with each other. For the Ewe, spiritual life and daily life are inseparable and heaven is not some distant destination arrived at after death. Because spirit permeates all of life, each song and rhythm carries a unique meaning that speaks of these deeper relationships."

Following this, a performance by The Rhythm Industrial Complex will keep the dance floor moving. The Rhythm Industrial Complex is one of Santa Barbara most sought-after dance bands blending afrobeat, funk, soul, reggae and other global grooves into high-energy live sets. Featuring horns, percussion and powerful vocals, the group performs a mix of original music and select covers built around extended rhythms and layered arrangements. Drawing influence from West African, Caribbean and American traditions, their sound emphasizes groove, movement and tight ensemble interplay.

Along the way, explore Earth Mama Tarot readings and astrological readings by local practitioners, adding a little extra spirit to the night.
