Troia (Portugal) or the “Portuguese Troy”: a mystery on the edge of the Roman Empire. Lecture by Dr. Filomena Limao, of the Nova University of Lisbon

The archaeological site of Troia in Portugal was in Roman times a noteworthy center for the production of salt fish goods as proven by the extensive workshops in the place. The site also preserves baths, insulae, domus, diverse funerary monuments and an early Christian basilica (second half of the 4th century CE), with painted walls. The strategic location of Troia may have allowed it to become a meeting place of people, ideas, religion, artistic trends, material resources.
