March 10 is commemorated world-wide as Tibetan Uprising Day, because on March 10, 1959, tens of thousands of Tibetans took to the streets of Lhasa, Tibet’s capital, rising up against China’s illegal invasion and occupation of their homeland. Santa Barbara County joins hundreds of government locations around the world in raising Tibet flags March 10 to show their support for freedom and human rights in Communist China and around the world.
