STATE OF HARMONY
“Conservation is a state of harmony between men and land.” — Aldo Leopold
Gaviota Creek runs to the blue Pacific year-round even after many years of drought. Its beautiful riparian area supports black bears, Coastal Newts, and Western Pond Turtles as well as many threatened species, including the California Red-legged Frog and the Southern Steelhead trout.
Partnering with Coastal Ranches Conservancy, Oak Group members with guest artists Tom DeWalt, Kit Boise-Cossart, and Tom Henderson will celebrate Gaviota Creek's unique ecosystem and other Gaviota Coast watersheds in State of Harmony, an exhibition on view November 1-30 in the Faulkner Gallery.
The show will support the Gaviota Creek Watershed Restoration project, to restore the creek’s estuary and floodplain, to protect private ranch lands within the watershed from development with conservation easements, and to remove barriers that currently block the migration of steelhead.
