Spokespersons representing a half-dozen news and media outlets participated yesterday in a panel discussion before an audience of psychiatrists and psychologists to raise public awareness regarding what they consider a critical issue facing their professions.
“We are simply too close to running out of psychiatric diagnoses to adequately capture and describe the erratic and often malicious self-centered behavior of our president,” said one panel member. “We are desperate. Can you please help?” the panelist added, close to tears.
Too often reporters, commentators, and newspaper columnists have to fall back on lay terms to get their message across, other panel members explained, but now they are close to using those descriptors up as well and are left with terms such as “crackers” and “daft” or “in the ozone” that are less familiar to readers and viewers and even sound humorous when the situation at the White House is actually desperately serious.
