Public cleanups of oil-marred beaches are set for Saturday and Sunday, but people wishing to take part must first fill out an application at calspillwatch.dfg.ca.gov . The previous training session on Monday taught 95 people the mandatory Hazardous Waste Operations Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER, pronounced "haz-whopper") for chemical release sites. A second training session takes place Thursday, and registered volunteers will be contacted about beach dates and locations.
