A Santa Barbara City College employee died Thursday after suffering an undisclosed medical emergency on campus. A fellow staff member found 39-year-old Dustin Green, who worked as a food service facility operator, unresponsive in his office at around 7 a.m., according to a report in The Channels student newspaper . Police determined there was no foul play, and the case has been forwarded to the Coroner's Office.
“We are deeply saddened by the death of Dustin,” City College Superintendent-President Dr. Lori Gaskin told The Channels. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, their children, and his SBCC colleagues during this most difficult time.” A group counseling session was held Friday morning for employees needing support.
Before joining SBCC, Green opened the upper State Street restaurant Jade in 2006. A GoFundMe page has been created to help his family with funeral expenses. Memorial service details are pending.
